As Spring approaches we begin to look to the garden. Our garden is basically a ‘green garden” so it is not that hard to plant new accent colors. I happen to like roses and we have set an area for a rose garden. I use my Sunbrella collection throughout the garden My wide stripe “Upland” is now 15 years old and loves the intense California sun.

With all the buzz about Bunny Mellon and the auction of her belongings, I would like to praise this lady for an amazing vision and creative “eye.” I had the pleasure of having lunch with her when I hosted a luncheon for her friend Hubert de Givenchy and what a lady she was. She asked if I would produce a documentary of her homes much as I did for Hubert. I had to decline due to other responsibilities. I regret I never completed her request.
My son-in-law, Philippe LeManach of Accents of France has created beautiful walls of ficus bushes that have been carefully trained to create walls for rooms in the garden. He has also designed and manufactured these pieces of architecture, featuring urns and pedestals. Looking from space to space gives the feeling you are in a very special French garden. What a thrill to watch my daughter Beth’s garden grow. With the talents of my son-in-law Philippe and Beth’s talent for cooking and gardening it has given me great joy. Also fun to watch the two sisters enjoy exchanging garden ideas and Philippe’s garden lattice and accessories (such as this beautiful urn) make their garden a very special place. The Chinese Garden at The Huttington, Pasadena, California is one of the most enchanting spots during the summer or throughout the year. It is like walking into a dream and another world. Hard to believe it is located in California. Chinese artisans were brought to California to recreate some of the most beautiful elements of a traditional Chinese garden.
I like a “touch” of color in our garden. The garden is basically green but I like to place geraniums, impatiens and roses to give a “pop” of color. Most of these flowers are in pots and I do change and rotate depending on the season.
Since childhood I can remember the sounds of walking on gravel or the sounds of cars driving up onto gravel. It is funny that most all of my homes have employed the use of gravel in the garden. Certainly a wonderful way to be responsible to water usage and to create anelegant,European look to the landscape.
It seems like yesterday my daughter Beth was playing in our garden; dressing up and making flower wreaths for her hair. Today she has created her own garden and it is such a pleasure to watch her create many recipes from her own Potager on Entertainingwithbeth on Youtube. Her husband Philippe creates all the beautiful lattice and accessories for their garden from his company accentsoffrance.com. As a father it seems like yesterday that she was playing in our back yard in Connecticut.
